I was put into the catcher’s position at an early age because of my size and I could actually catch a ball. It was not my first position choice. Learning to catch was difficult and very frustrating for me. However, one of the best decisions I made was to stick with the position. Catching has taught me many critical life skills. To this day, I still find the position one of the most mentally and physically demanding jobs on the field, but also one of the most rewarding. I have learned to have a loud voice, a strong backbone, and quick reaction skills.
Over the last 4 years of high school, I have learned to push myself to prove that I have what it takes to earn and keep my spot on the team. It has given me the self-confidence to grow. I have seen my success as an athlete exceed my expectations each year. I take pride in being honest with myself and others. I have always been one to focus on the now instead of the future. I have a laid back personality but I do not have an issue taking a stand for something I truly believe in.
I have also been playing my secondary position of relief pitching. My focus is still catching, but I am one of our leading relief pitchers. I have caught and pitched in the same game at a Varsity level proving a lot of success with both positions. I see this as a unique skill as a primary catcher that could be a versatile benefit for any team.
One of the biggest highlights of my high school career was my first grand slam during a wood bat tournament. Our team won the championship of the tournament which made the memory even more rewarding for me. I have been fortunate to display my athletic talents as a regular starter my first year on the Varsity High School team. I was awarded a varsity letter in baseball for my accomplishments on the field.
I credit my family and friends who have had a huge influential impact in my life. The close connections I have with both has taught me how to build loyal and lasting relationships with the people I encounter in my life. As a 2020 graduate at Millard North High School, I am looking forward to the next level where I can continue my athletic and academic career.
