My name is Tyler Michaud and I would like to introduce myself. I’m 16 years old and heading into my junior year in 2019 at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, New Hampshire. Pinkerton Academy is a fairly large high school in New Hampshire with over 3,200 students from several towns and communities in the greater Derry, NH area. Being in school with such a large population of students means there’s a high level of competition for all sports teams.
Through hard work, dedication, a will to succeed, and a competitive mindset, I’ve been able to stand-out at Pinkerton and earned a starting position at shortstop on the Freshman and Junior Varsity teams. I had playtime at second base on the Varsity baseball team as well. In travel baseball, I have played shortstop and pitched for the Hurricanes, NH Bobcats, and currently with the New Hampshire Prospects (NHP), competing in Division I, which is the highest level of competition in the New England Elite Baseball League (EBL). I have also played fall baseball in the Showcase League. Competing against the top players in Division I through travel and high school, has really reinforced the need to continue to push myself and grow if I want to continue to compete at a high level. My controlled attitude and constant effort has lead to many of my successes.
My passion for baseball began even before I stepped foot on the T-ball field as a preschooler. Although I was too young to remember, my parents have shared humorous stories of me mesmerized by a full 9 innings at my first local minor league baseball game at the age at 2 years old, and at age 3, they secretly snapped photos of me in the kitchen mimicking the pitcher’s throwing stance I saw on the cover of ESPN the magazine. From those moments on, I have spent countless hours alongside my father who has coached and inspired me through recreational and travel baseball programs, school baseball, and college baseball camps. As a player and as an individual, I have grown.
Giving back to the community is something I feel strongly about as well. In middle school, I volunteered for the Unified Sports Program. This program is about bringing together students with intellectual disabilities and partnering them with typical students to train and compete in sporting activities. This program really showed me that although some kids have limitations, they can accomplish quite a bit with guidance, a positive attitude, and great effort. Attitude and effort are things that we can control in life to make us better individuals, academically, as a teammate, and player. Unified Sports and other volunteer programs are rewarding to me as I’m able to give back to my community.
My future goal beyond high school is pursuing a higher education while having an opportunity to continue my passion for playing baseball at the collegiate level. Being a student-athlete is a commitment and requires dedication and a willingness to work. I believe that I have been raised to have a strong character backed by a supportive family and friend network that will allow me to accomplish my goals and dreams in life. “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” - Michael Jordan It is my mission to make being a student-athlete at the collegiate level happen!
