Personal Statement

My name is Alex Pedi.  I am a tall, lanky 6'3" right-handed pitcher that throws side-arm with a lot of movement and deception on all 4 of my pitches.  I am built like Chris Sale and I throw similar to Darren O'Day.   I just finished my Junior year with a 4.0 GPA and in baseball I would have pitched for Varsity if the season wasn’t cancelled due to COVID-19.  I throw my 4-seam fastball in the mid 70's right now with rise to it and have a few different movements to my 2-seam fastball.  I also have a hard sinker, and my two "out" pitches are my change-up and slider.  My coach projects my fastball to consistently reach the low 80's by the start of my Senior year.  Below is a little bit more about me.

I am from a small town in Southern New Hampshire.  I have 2 younger sisters and parents who have been very supportive of me throughout my baseball and academic career.  I have played baseball since I was 6 years old and am a big Boston Red Sox fan (hope you don’t hold that against me).  My hobbies are sports cars (old and new), and I love to draw, build things, and work on electronics.

My parents have been a big inspiration in my life and have shown me that I can do or be anything I want to be with hard work and determination.  I am very coach-able and a fast learner.  My father coached me in many sports (soccer, basketball and baseball), but baseball was always my favorite.  He has taught me a lot about the game and pitching and has gotten me professional training once I was older in order to accelerate my growth as a pitcher.

I completed my fourth year playing AAU baseball last summer.  I was 16 years old and played for the top team which was an 18U Showcase team for the Lowell Jr. Spinners as mostly a starter and some as a reliever.  My best outing as a starter was a 1-hitter.  This year's offseason bullpen sessions, I trained with a former AAA pitcher and former MLB Pitching Coach for the Tampa Bay Rays who has helped me with consistency in throwing side-arm and increasing my fastball by 5-7 MPH.  I have a lot of movement and deception on my pitches because of my side-arm delivery which helps as my fastball is only in the upper 70's to lower 80’s.  Last year I had a 4:1 ground-ball to fly-ball ratio.  I continue to lift 3-5 days a week to add size and strength to my frame in order to get my fastball consistently in the 80’s.

Growing up my favorite baseball player was Jonathan Papelbon.  I loved his attitude on the mound and how he was fearless going after batters.  I bring the same attitude and have that “try to hit this” fearless approach.  There is no better feeling than striking batters out and pitching well to help the team get a Win!  Today I am a big Chris Sale fan as he brings his unique delivery and dominance every night he pitches.  I can relate to him as I throw sidearm.  Growing up with my unique throwing style, I have had to overcome criticism which I have learned to use as fuel for my success (something else my parents taught me).  I am also a very good student (3.71 Current GPA) and understand the important of academics.  My goal is to be a pitcher in college, a leader in the clubhouse, and graduate with a high GPA.  I am interested in studying Industrial Design as I love to design and build things.

Events

  • Baseball Factory - College PREP
  • 7/07/19 to 7/07/19
  • Alex worked out on the mound during his last workout with The Factory. This RHP has good balance over the rubber, his arm action is clean, and he separates his hands on time. He keeps his eyes on target, has good direction toward home plate, and he shows good glove side lead. Alex has a controlled landing toward home plate and he uses his lower body. Continuing to add arm strength, more extension, and sharpening his off-speed will help abilities on the mound get better.
  • Camp/Event
  • Baseball Factory - National Tryout/College Prep
  • 6/10/18 to 6/10/18
  • Alex is a lean RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point. Fastball showed a range of 66-67 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Alex has potential with time and room to progress his game. Alex was selected and will go to the Cape Cod Advanced Training and Competition in July for Baseball Factory. Only a few hundred kids get selected to go to these Advanced Trainings out of 9,600 players across 50 states throughout the country.
  • Camp/Event
  • Prep Baseball Report (PBR) Pro Day
  • 3/18/17 to 3/18/17
  • He was worked out as a pitcher only. It was his first Pro Scout Day. 6-foot-1, 140-pound right-handed pitcher. Good looking frame, athletic and loose movements. The fastball touched 69 mph with arm side run. The breaking ball is frisbee style, sat at 62 mph. The changeup is 64 mph and a work in progress. The slot is low ¾ and loose. The arm really works and has a chance to be very deceptive from that angle. The direction of the front side needs to be cleaned, he comes off the target much too soon. The head posture needs to stay back as he his too far forward as he makes his way into foot strike. I like the arm and the angle, but a cleaning is needed for him to throw strikes.
