Personal Statement

Baseball has taught me a lot of lessons throughout my career. It has taught me about leadership. It has taught me about commitment and hard work, and it taught me about never quitting.

For leadership, I was always able to play "up" in my career, so I was always playing with older players. I watched and learned that to be a good leader you needed to support your teammates in all situations. I learned that you always needed to be positive. I saw how they made the right decisions on how they carried themselves and did things with good sportsmanship. I have had a few chances to lead as captain of my middle school basketball team and on my freshman baseball team, but in my upcoming senior High School baseball season I will be looked upon as one of two returning starters to lead our team and I look forward to being as good a leader as my previous teammates.

For hard work and persistence, these traits have helped me on and off the field. Off the field, I was a middle school student struggling in math. I was placed in a basic skills program. I hated being in this program and I wanted to get out. My dad and mom and I talked to the program teachers and asked if it was possible to get out of the program early. They told us if I showed the right grow and skills it was possible. My father got me a tutor and I worked really hard on math. I was determined to get out of that program and back into my regular class. After the third semester we met with the program teachers and everyone agreed that I no longer needed to be in basic skills. I finished my year with an A in math. On the field, I have gone through slumps at the plate. As a sophomore playing on varsity my fielding made me a starter, but I struggled at the plate. I worked with coaches and on my own turning my hitting around at the end of the season. As a junior, I was, again, the starting SS and knew I was going to get more at bats and needed to continue to work on my hitting to help the team. After a sub .300 sophomore season, I finished my junior season batting .333. Hitting and school are not easy and you have to keep working hard to be successful.

My goal is to enjoy my remaining club and high school baseball seasons, find a school that fits and will allow me the chance to play. Baseball is an important part of my life and I enjoy being a student-athlete and would like to continue to learn from the game in college because I think it helps me throughout all parts of life.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
