My name is Devin Tonkins and I love baseball and I enjoy learning new things. My goal is to earn a college scholarship and to play in the MLB. After college, I plan to attend medical school to become a doctor. I speak Spanish very well and attended an immersion program since kindergarten. I am a hard worker, and my academic performance as well as my play on the field serve as my testimony. In fact, even when we do not have team practice, I often run sprints on my own, go to the batting cages and find a friend to throw with.
I am a good candidate for any baseball team because I can adapt to just about any situation. After I transferred from Dudley High School to Greensboro Day School, the Head of School commented that I have adjusted very well and that my grades were so good I could be trusted not to have a Study Hall but have an Open Campus assignment. While I made the decision to continue with the Study Hall, I was honored that the school recognized my academic ability as well as my ability to adapt to a new environment quickly.
I am different from other recruits because I am a visionary. I have created my own brand of clothing to promote the sport of baseball for young people. Coaches and players consider me a team player and leader who can uplift my teammates when we are down and encourage everyone to be great when we are down. I can accept constructive criticism and work to make improvements in me daily. I am the whole package!
