Hello my name is Gavin Degroat, I am a senior at Valley View High school. I live in a small town in Ohio called Germantown. I live on a farm and my goal everyday of my life was to work harder than anyone else and take advantage of every opportunity I could get. Since the fourth grade I would get up before school and feed the animals and sometimes run or do push ups. From a young age I was a three sport athlete, and in every sport I have been noticed for my work ethic and hustle. Along with being a three sport athlete, and having to help on the farm, school was and is always my number one priority. I strive to be the best student I can be. I have always had straight A's my entire life. As I got older just helping around the farm changed to a full time job. Doing all of this, I have to always have good time management. As I got older, my love for baseball intensified and I dropped basketball to focus on baseball year round. I began to lift and work out 5 days a week and work on baseball in the winter. I dedicated any free time I had to lifting, or working on baseball, I wanted to focus on getting better. In seventh and eighth grade I used my study hall to tutor my classmates when they needed help. When my freshman year came around my number one goal aside from getting straight As was lettering in football and baseball. I achieved this goal in football, but my baseball season was cancelled because of COVID- 19. But, I didn’t let the quarantine slow me down. I continued to work out at my house and run. I also worked on speed and agility during quarantine. As soon as they gave us the green light I was right back into practicing with the football team and playing baseball. My goal going into sophomore was to start in both football and baseball, aside from maintaining my grades. I achieved this goal in both sports. I was the starting middle linebacker for my football team and the starting catcher for my baseball team. I caught every game. I continued to develop into a key player for my teams in both sports, achieving first team all league in both my junior year and second team all district. My summer league baseball season is off to a phenomenal start as well, I’m excited to see what the future holds. My dream is to attend college as a business major with an offer to play baseball as well. I would love nothing more than to continue my baseball career in college while obtaining a college degree.
