Personal Statement

I could say I love the game, but everyone will say that.  I am a baseball player through and through.  I am a leader and accountable.  I value my teammates and hold none of them more accountable than I do myself.  Success to me is how well my team performs and how much they enjoy playing the game.  I try to make sure I positively impact both.   If you aren't working every day, then you aren't being the best teammate you can be.  If you can't enjoy baseball then you aren't playing it the right way or with the right people.   I want to be part of something special in college.  Both on the field and in the classroom.  I know how important college is.  My grandfather taught grad school at OSU for 40+ years and has never started a conversation about college with the word baseball.  My father walked on as a baseball player.  He and the rest of my family are die hard baseball fans, so I've never ended a conversation about college without the word baseball coming up a lot.  The education I will get is the most important part of my decision.  The location and campus are key as are the coaches I will be lucky enough to learn from.  I know I will come out with the best education possible.  To do that while playing the game I love would be a dream come true.

  • MATTHEW WOLFE SS / RHP / OLENTANGY ORANGE, OH / 2022 A two-way prospect that had the most upside of any position player prospect at the event. Wolfe passes the look test with flying colors at 6-foot-1, 160-pounds. A rangy shortstop that really impressed with the glove. A very good athlete that moves well laterally and maintains actions on the move. Makes the routine play consistently and can make the wow play as well. At the plate the right-hander has a run producer skill set. His long levers allow him to really do damage when he gets extended. Will expand the zone more than he should at times but the tools and upside are obvious. On the mound arm is long/very loose and lower half is efficient. Ball jumps out of hand with fastball sitting 76-79 mph. Going to throw really hard someday. Wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if Wolfe is a two-way recruit down the road profiling as a power hitting infielder with big time velo on the bump. 4 Game Round Robin 6 for 11, 2 2B, 3 3B, 6 RBI, 5 R, 4/4 SB .545 Avg 1.273 Slug

  • OHIO INSIDER: 2018 JUNIOR FUTURE GAMES TRYOUTS - SNEAK PEEK TOP ARMS: MATTHEW WOLFE SS / RHP / OLENTANGY ORANGE, OH / 2022 Report: 6-foot, 150-pound lanky built right-handed pitching prospect was a top performer at the event with a long, loose arm action out of a ¾ slot. Wolfe has a high-energy delivery that produced a 78-80 mph fastball. His curveball had some bite with tight spin at 62-65 mph. Showed solid feel for the changeup that had some run and dive to it at 70-71 mph. High upside arm. TOP POSITION PLAYERS: MATTHEW WOLFE SS / RHP / OLENTANGY ORANGE, OH / 2022 Report: Wolfe does a nice job incorporating fluid movements to put him in a strong, balanced position at launch. Flashed an impressive batspeed(86)/strength combination through the zone. High ceiling at the plate as physical maturation takes its course. Also looked the part in the infield. A rangy defender that glove plays in his funnel and on the move. Third baseman frame with shortstop hands/feet. Going to be a good one.

  • SNEAK PEEK WRITE-UP Matthew Wolfe, RHP, Olentangy Orange, 2022 Scouting Report: A good athlete with a quick bat. Loading sequence is fluid and puts him in a strong launch position. Swing is very efficient, expect much more pop with maturity. Took a solid round of BP but stood out in game. Showed an advanced approach at the plate with natural feel for the barrel. Recorded multiple hits in game, highlighted by a ground rule double to centerfield. Event Leaders "Most Tools": Matthew Wolfe, RHP, Olentangy Orange, 2022 (ONLY 2022 CATEGORY MENTION) A right-handed hitter that starts in a balanced setup. Uses a double tap for timing and energy. Hands move back rhythmically to launch. Path is downhill with quickness to his bat. Would be aided by leveling out path to let his well above average natural tools show more frequently. Has potential to develop into a middle of the order guy as his frame fills out. In the infield he does a nice job creating angles in his pre fielding footwork. Ball skills are well above average. Actions are athletic and stay on the move. Transfer is smooth and he uses multiple arm angles. A solid young defender. On the mound he has an easy leg kick, that follows with a high ¾ arm slot. He generates a lot whip in his motion with ease. His delivery is effortless and smooth. His tempo is good in between pitches and to batters. He is a good defender as well. He is quick off the mound and covers first on groundballs to 1B. Has an arsenal of pitches for his age and commands all of them well. FB is straight with a little life. CB has an 11/5 break with sharpness to it. SL is 10/4 with good bite across from one side of the plate to the other. CH has some movement to it. FB: 72-75 mph CB: 65-66 mph CH: 64-67 mph SL: 66-68 mph 60-yard Dash: 7.38 Infield Velocity: 68 Exit Velocity: 82

  • SNEAK PEAK Arms to keep an eye on… On a day dominated by 2021s, 2022 RHP Matthew Wolfe really stood out with his performance on the mound. Wolfe brings above average athleticism on the mound, with efficient mechanics and a loose arm. Fastball was anywhere from 71-73 mph, and he shows all the physical signs of much more velocity to come. The most impressive part of his performance was his feel for his secondary stuff. His slider, breaking ball, and changeup were all impressive offerings and consistently in the zone. A righty that has a bright future on the mound. Very mechanically efficient with long, loose arm action. His fastball sat 71-72 mph with all the physical signs of much more velocity to come. Secondary stuff is advanced for his age. Spins two different breaking balls. His 11/5 shaped curveball was very sharp with depth at 62-63 mph. Slider has a tighter shape with late action across the zone at 64-65 mph. His changeup was equally as impressive, maintaining fastball arm speed with late fade to it. Overall very impressive performance on the mound. At the plate he uses a very fluid loading sequence, incorporating a double tap while taking his hands to launch. Bat speed is well above average and he creates solid barrel whip through contact. Swing is efficient and flashed signs of power potential as he matures. In the infield he possesses impressive tools across the board for his age. Actions are smooth and he plays with confidence. Glove skills are there and he has the arm to stay on the left side of the infield. 60-yard dash: 7.49 Infield Velocity: 73 Exit Velocity: 79
