My name is Adam Beard, and I really enjoy the game of baseball. Hardwork is an understatement. Everyone is a hardworking baseball player, but I am truly dedicated to this sport. I am someone who understands situational baseball. Every pitch presents different scenarios. As a leader on the field, my job is to make sure everyone knows what is going on, and where they are going, on every pitch. Off the field my job is to help under classmen become better players with knowledge, skill and work ethic, and to be a positive teammate in the dugout. I feel that past and present coaches have prepared me for the next level of baseball. COVID affected my junior year of baseball at the high school level but did not affect my desire to continue to play. I was able to participate in summer travel baseball as a junior. One of my most important accomplishments was being nominated for team captain on my high school team this year. My teammates look to me for guidance, and I often assist our younger players with proper footwork and throwing and hitting drills at practice. I believe that you lead by example. If I take it seriously, so will they. I have been on the varsity baseball team at my high school since my freshmen year.
Knowing that I'm capable of playing baseball in college makes me more passionate for this sport. What I can offer to a team is the promise to always work hard and never give up. To help give guidance when asked, and to always be a good listener and role model.
My senior year has presented me with many different challenges, and I have been asked to play different positions at other sports. I have been told by others that this makes me a very versatile athlete. This is why I competed at the varsity level all four years of high school. I stand 6’0” tall and weigh 220 pounds. I was an All-Ohio football receiver as a junior, and I started as a receiver once again this year only to be moved to running back mid-season. My versatility also allowed me to be the starting point guard on our varsity basketball team, where I earned an honorable mention selection for my conference and a 2nd team All-District selection as a senior basketball player. Although baseball is my first love, I also excelled at football and basketball while in high school. I have also played travel baseball during the summer for the last nine years. I believe that being versatile is as important as anything.
When choosing what school, I would like to go to something with driving distance, my options are pretty wide open. I mainly am looking at east coast and mid-west states but I am very open to going anywhere. I am open-minded about colleges and hope to just find a college that fits me best. It doesn't matter about the size or location; if I can receive a good education and play baseball I will be happy. My top two choices for a major as of right now are either Education or Sports Trainer. However, my major may change over the course of the rest of my high school career.
My realistic athletic goals are to continue playing the sport I love at a high competitive level for as long as possible. Another goal of mine is to make an optimistic impact on the team and to be a positive example to those after me. Knowing at the end of the day that I made a difference and tried my hardest will be very self-satisfying.
