Personal Statement

Dear Coach,

Hello, my name is Joey Cidila. I am 5’8 and 125 pounds. I attend Hickory High School in Hermitage, PA and I am currently in 10th grade. I want to be able to compete at the college level playing the sport that I have loved since I was a child.

To start off, I would love to say that baseball is just something fun that I play, but it’s much more than that. Baseball allows me to understand myself and my body. I’ve played it for 12 years and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. It has been there for me through thick and thin. Also, who wouldn’t want to grow up and have the opportunity to play the sport that they love? By playing baseball in college, I am giving myself that sense of reassurance that I know I can be great if I just put the work in. If you give me a chance, I promise I won’t disappoint you.

Moving along, my strong work ethic on and off the field propels me to stand out above my peers. If I’m on your team, I promise I will put the work in to not only make myself better but the team as well. I will put forth my best effort on the field as well as in the classroom. I am always that guy that’s up on the fence of the dugout eager for my teammate to get a hit. I want the ball hit to me so I can make a play. I want to get in that batters box and hit a nice solid line drive into the gap or straight up the middle.  I promise that I will always give you and my teammates 100% and even if I fail at times, that will not stop me. It will make me want the next play even more or the next at bat even more.

Lastly, I want to be able to play for a team that fits not only my athletic needs but also my academics. As of now I am looking on majoring in business and I want a school with a good academic program so I can get my major as well as play baseball. I don’t really care about weather, but I want it to feel like that baseball atmosphere during the season. I want the smell of that fresh air and the feel of the turf or dirt under my cleats. I want a college where the coaches and team have as much confidence in me as I do in them.

Thank you for listening and I hope that you are the right fit for me as I am for you!
