Personal Statement

Dear Coaches,

My name is Brandon Anderson and I am a Junior, attending Westwood High School in Blythewood, South Carolina.  I have been playing baseball since I was five years old.  I played one year of coaches pitch and then moved up to player pitch.  This is when I fell in love with baseball and knew it was the sport for me.  I have played every position on the field and work hard to be the best wherever my team needs me.  Our high school opened in 2012, so we are still building our program.  I have been a part of this team since my seventh grade year and have learned the importance of working together as a team, how to pick each other up, and motivate my teammates even when we are not winning.  We have come a long way, and should be a very competitive team for my remaining three years of high school.

I am a good candidate for your team because I have a 3.8 - 4.0 GPA, and I give a 110% effort on and off the field.  The one thing that I know that will make me different from most of the other candidates that you see is I am a utility player (Coach Perry says he can put me anywhere on the field and it looks like that is where I have always played), although my primary position is middle infield and pitcher. Another thing that makes me different from other candidates is just because something is hard I will never give up until I get it.

I would like to thank you for reading and looking at my Recruiting Page, ask you to follow me to see my progress, and I hope to hear from you soon!!!

  • 10/18/2017 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Brandon is a horse of a RHP who looks like he can lead a staff at the next level. He is always working around the zone with great feel for each of his pitches and has the ability to mix and change speeds well. His fastball shows improved life in the mid 80s which he features heavily and compliments it with a sharp breaking curve, slider and deceptive change. He has a bulldog presence on the mound, going right after hitters and dictating the game to them. He holds runners well by varying his pace and being quick to the plate. His slider is his go to pitch to get strike outs and can generate lots of swings and misses. Brandon has the making of a complete pitcher who can be very effective at the next level.

  • Baseball Factory National World Series
  • 7/28/17 to 8/01/17
  • 07/28/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Brandon is a tall, lanky RHP/SS who has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, he shows a sound / repeatable delivery that allows his quick arm action to work well to the plate. Arm strength is solid as indicated by his top velocity of 82 mph. Fastball shows a range of 79-82 mph with sinking action and gets a lot of ground balls. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with cutting action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At SS, defensive abilities are well above average, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works around and plays through balls with his body. He moves well laterally. Glove action is clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Hands / feet work well together and he gets rid of the baseball quickly with life, carry, and accuracy on his throws. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. He is a patient hitter with a strong recognition of the strike zone as he drew 4 BB at the event. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude, works hard, and is a student of the game. With 2 years to further develop, Brandon has a big upside on the mound and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.
