From the moment I put my first pair of cleats on and stepped onto the infield dirt when I was five, I knew that I loved this game. Now years later, I am in high school and love the game even more. As I have gotten older I have realized that, although it is great to dream big, it is also wise to have another plan in place. I have the pipe dream that every baseball player does, which is to make it to the Majors, but I now see that the game I love has the chance to bring me to a college education, and a great career. I look forward to the challenge of college baseball, everything from the studying and homework, to the traveling, early morning workouts and practices, to the late nights and little sleep, etc. I take a lot of pride in being the hardest working person on the field, and push my teammates to be the same way.
When I need to get better at something, I really put my mind to it and commit to making the change. Until high school, I really struggled academically. As I was going into my freshman year, I realized that the possibility to play college baseball was a reality, and decided I needed to refocus myself to my academics. Although it hasn't been easy, I have made a huge turnaround with my grades, and it is one of my biggest goals to become a straight A student. I am not there yet, but I am not far away either. I feel that this not only shows that I am a good student, but that I am dedicated to do what I need to do to get to where I want to go.
I have a larger than average family. I have three siblings and I am the oldest. I have two sisters, Adysen and Sloan, and a younger brother Cash. I take a lot of pride in each of them and everything they accomplish. Adysen plays volleyball and is a good student. Cash is the smartest one of all the siblings, straight A student, and is a pretty good athlete as well. He plays the same sports as me, so I really work in a coach fashion with him to help him get better. Sloan is the youngest and is in softball and does well in school. My mom and dad never went to college, both of them started working right out of high school. They have provided us with everything we have needed, and also instilled in us a good work ethic and personal accountability.
As I noted I like to be kind of a coach to my siblings, one of the coolest and most important things to me is the work we do with the Miracle League in Sioux Falls. The Miracle League is a baseball league designed for special needs people. They play on a turf field, and we are their ball buddies. We walk with them, help with anything they need help with, and overall we just get to bring baseball to people who otherwise wouldn't be able to play this great game. I wish everyone could understand how it feels to help someone in this way.
I will end my statement with a phrase that I don't remember where it originated, but my dad has said this to me since I was just a little boy and it always sticks with me:
Practice doesn't make perfect;
Perfect practice makes perfect!
