I am Dallas Brown, and I will be starting my Junior year at Burkburnett High School. I am 5' 11" tall and weigh 180 pounds. This will be my third year of high school baseball. I played with the Junior Varsity squad the past two seasons, and occasionally played varsity. I am a right-handed pitcher. I also play first base and third base. Those are my primary positions, but at some point I've played every position other than catcher. I am athletic enough to play whatever position my coaches need me to play. I bat right and throw right.
Baseball has played an important role in my life. While I have participated in other youth sports like football and basketball, I've always been drawn to baseball for as far back as I can remember. One of my favorite toys as a toddler was a birthday gift I received from my grandfather - a Little Tikes T-Ball set. I would play with it in my backyard for hours. As I got older, my mother would toss the ball to me to hit. She noticed I had a talent for hitting the ball and shared that with my father. Soon, he was signing me up to play T-Ball. By the time I was 8 years old, I had decided that baseball would be the sport I focused on.
While baseball is my passion, I do make space in my life for other things. I started taking Taekwondo lessons when I was 7. I am a Brown Belt and I'm only two belts away from a Black Belt. I played high school basketball for two seasons. I was a power forward and center on the Junior Varsity squad. I decided to leave basketball to focus on baseball full time.
I also enjoy music. I started learning to play drums when I was 5 years old. I was a percussionist with my middle school band, but I decided to leave band to focus on sports. Video gaming is also something I enjoy. I like playing games on my own or with friends. I find that it helps me unwind. I recently took up fishing and it has quickly become my favorite hobby.
I have always done well academically. I maintained an "A" average throughout elementary and middle school. I was selected to be a National Junior Honor Society member in 7th and 8th grade. I was selected to either the A Honor Roll, A/B Honor Roll, or the Principal's A Honor Roll during every reporting period throughout my middle school years. I was selected to the A/B Honor Roll in my freshman year. I am interested in Astronomy or Engineering, but I haven't made a firm decision yet on what college degree I plan to pursue.
During my time as a baseball player, I have always been more of an informal leader. I always try to lead by example. I work hard, pay attention to my coaches, and don't take plays off. I'm coachable and I play with a competitive fire. I want to be successful both personally and as part of a team, but I don't put my success ahead of the team. When I step on the field I am focused on doing my part to help the team be successful. Many people tell me I'm a good baseball player, but I always try to be humble and look for opportunities to get better.
I am working hard this offseason. I hit the gym daily for weight training. I recently completed my summer season with the KC Stealth 16U showcase team coached by Kelly Cross. I will be playing with them again this fall in a fall league and tournaments in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. I will also continue working with my pitching coach Victor Silverio Jr. to improve my pitching skills.
I have been fortunate to have great coaches, instructors, and baseball mentors. I am also fortunate to have parents who support me. They are at every practice and every game, they take me to baseball camps and showcases, and sign me up for private lessons. Those lessons and camps have helped me improve as a player. One camp that I enjoyed attending when I was younger was a camp conducted by former MLB catcher Camron Rupp. That camp helped me as a player because he helped with my mindset and approach to tee work. In the past I have also worked with former Texas Tech pitcher Ethan Coombes to improve my pitching. He helped me understand the importance of mechanics. Every one of my coaches and instructors have helped me grow as a player and I am grateful for that.
When I was 8 years old I told my parents that I wanted to play Major League Baseball. Since then, I have made that my goal. And when I set my mind to accomplishing a goal I am determind to achieve it. I take my school work seriously and pride myself on my grades. In addition to camps and private instruction, I work on improving my baseball skills outside of team practices by doing tee work and fielding drills at home. I also have a small ball pitching machine set up in my garage that I use for vision and reaction training. I know that I am talented, but I also know talent alone isn't enough.
I look forward to the opportunity to show that I'm the kind of player that is the right fit for your program. I believe I have the talent, work ethic, and mindset that coaches look for in a baseball player.
