Personal Statement

It is hard to believe that when I first began to play baseball I was almost always in tears, never the less, I grew to love the game. I began to play baseball at four years old and was lucky enough to play for a man who taught me the rules of the game on and off the field. I played for the Bulldogs for ten years with Coach Rudy. On that team is where I began to dream about my future. My goals include to graduate in honors as part of the first graduating class of the Socorro Early College High School, study a career in electrical engineering, and receive an academic and athlete scholarship to continue my career as a ball player. Having outstanding grades in school was not just one of my parent’s expectations, but a personal goal of mine. I strived to make the honor roll because education is very important in my family. Both of my parents have modeled this for my brother, sister and I. I remember attending the welcome home parade for when I was about 8 years old and the Socorro baseball team won their state championship—ever since then I wanted to be like one of them and have the opportunity to play college baseball.

As I mentioned before, I was part of the Bulldogs for ten years, there I was lucky enough to meet some great teammates who have become my friends. On that team, we each played a role. Because I was their captain I was the one to rely on. I was like the big brother in that team. I was the one who would pick them up when we were losing. Those guys were like my second family and they were like my little brothers. Like I said I was the one that they would rely on, so I had a major part in the team. The coaches taught me respect and responsibility. I was very determined to be the best player on that team because ever since I was little I’ve always wanted to be the best. My parents wanted the best of me and I worked hard every practice because I wanted to be the best. I would play all over the field because they would rely on me.

I am a great teammate because I pump the team up when they are down. I encourage them not to give up on themselves. We all are a big family and we treat each other like brothers. We treat each other with respect and cheer everyone on. If anyone is down I will do everything I can to cheer them up again. Like I said we are a big family. Even at school we would protect each other, we are like a wolf pack we stay together as one.

Persistence is defined as the ability to adapt to environment and I have proven that at a young age I am capable of achieving beyond my expectations. Such as in Mr. Duran’s engineering course, I had finished an assignment that took me about a week to finish, and I had to make 3D shapes but make it a certain size, it was difficult at but I finished it with an excellent grade.
