Personal Statement

I fell in love with baseball at 4 years old, but my obsession with throwing a ball may have started before then. Growing up in Northern California, I always played outside and enjoyed baseball with my friends and teammates. I thrive on competition and enjoy the process of mastering my ability to strike a player out. The feeling of overcoming obstacles excites me, but my passion is performing well and winning with my teammates. With my move to The Woodlands, Texas, I've learned to adapt to new coaches and teammates and created life-long friendships thanks to baseball.

My strengths include:

  1. Great teammate
  2. Coachable and inclined to test new techniques
  3. FB RPM: 2,679, SL RPM: 2,799
  4. Consistency when pitching - FB: 87-91, CH: 80, CB: 75-77, SL: 76-80
  5. 4.0 GPA

When I step on a mound, I know it's where I belong. I've been pitching my entire baseball career and devoted countless hours to getting stronger, faster, and smarter on and off the field. I'm committed to working hard and continuously improving my craft. I will always step up to a challenge and find ways to learn and grow from the experience.

I always put in more work than expected than any competitor, and I'm motivated to be the best at what I do. I aim to become a professional baseball player, but I understand that my academics are crucial to my success. Therefore, I take classes that will challenge and prepare me for college. I want to major in Finance, but I'm open to learning more about Sports Medicine, so I will likely do both in my lifetime. I plan to continue to excel in athletics and education throughout my high school career. In the future, I aspire to become a D1 college student-athlete and become the best LHP in baseball.

  • Report from Brooks Vanlandingham: The Woodlands finished the weekend 2-2-1 after dropping one-run games to Southlake Carroll and Prosper and tying Argyle 4-4. Despite a tough schedule, the Highlanders impressed the Five Tool staff with some big-time performances on the mound and their ability to get clutch hits when needed. In game one against Argyle, the Highlanders received one of the performances of the tournament from junior LHP Isaiah Salas. Salas was masterful in this one, going 5.0 scoreless innings while allowing only two hits and striking out six. On a chilly night, the lefty sat 86-88 MPH with his fastball, and mixed his slider and curveball to stifle one of the best hitting lineups in the state. He was particularly tough on the Eagles’ left-handed hitters, pounding them down and in with his fastball and using his slider to finish at-bats. The two hits allowed were both soft ground balls that snuck through the infield, and one of them could have been scored an error by a pitcher-friendly scorer. Argyle went on to score 27 runs on the weekend after Salas exited the game, further emphasizing how impressive he was to start the tournament. He looks like a major D1 prospect with high pitchability. - Named to the 2024 Five Tool All-Festival Team

  • Top Prospect List and Top Prospect Team, PG Grade 9, Showcase Scouting Report: Isaiah Salas is a 2025 LHP/1B/OF with a 5-11 184 lb. frame from The Woodlands, TX who attends The Woodlands. Medium athletic build with some present strength. Very compact arm action in back that hides the ball well and creates some deception, tight 3/4's arm slot, has some energy at release but repeats his mechanics well. Fastball topped out at 86 mph, mostly straight with some occasional arm side life. Slider was his pitch, adds and subtracts on the velocity while creating very good spin and tightness. Threw strikes with both pitches and was effective. Can see this continuing to improve and it is already solid. Excellent student. Named to the HS All-State Select Championship Top Prospect List.

  • Underclass Standouts - Notes from Texas Scouting Director: The Soph. LHP had a sharp outing on Sunday. He showed good pitch ability and was able to pitch in all 4 quadrants of the zone. He pitched from the stretch exclusively, with an efficient delivery. He did a good job of repeating his mechanics with a shorter arm action that added some deception. He featured a fastball that sat 80-83 with some ASR. He was also able to get under RRH's with the pitch. He also threw a curveball in the 68-70 range, landing it for a strike and burying it to the backfoot of righties. He threw quality Change to round out his arsenal that he threw with good arm action, and would start it on the outside corner and let it run off the plate. It was a mature outing for Salas who should see some big jumps as he gets stronger to match his pitch ability.
