My name is Nicholas Dawson (Nick), and I am a Senior at Amherst County High School in Amherst, VA. I come from a large family as I am the fourth child of five, four boys and a girl. Our family has always played baseball and we started playing in our local youth program as soon as we could. Baseball is in my blood. By the age of eight, I was playing on a travel team and have been ever since. Our team has always worked hard to improve our skills so we could compete at a high level.
Mostly, I have played second base but have been playing shortstop to help our team fill a hole due to pitching needs. I have also played outfield, third base and have been pitching more to extend our staff and to prepare for a larger pitching role on my high school team. Our team has always stressed team ball. Every team member must have their hands on the rope and pull together in the same direction.
After high school, I want to attend a college that will allow me to pursue my education toward being a physical therapist and give me the opportunity to play baseball in a competitive program. Baseball is an important part of my life and has helped me deal with difficult times. I believe baseball teaches you how to prepare for the ups and downs of life. I have prepared myself for the next stage in my life and look forward to advancing my education and baseball career.
