Personal Statement

My name is Mitchell Clarke, and I am in the Class of 2017 at W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, VA.  I work very hard, both on the ball field and in the classroom, earning a 4.1 GPA while taking numerous honors and AP courses, playing 2 varsity sports – basketball and baseball.  I manage my time well, balancing academics and athletics, while finding time to play cello in the Advanced Orchestra.

On the diamond, I lead by example and strive to continue to improve my skills and understanding of the game.  I truly work to incorporate input and feedback from coaches, and I have been told I am very coachable and have a good baseball IQ.  I was a Varsity starter my Sophomore year (2015) and elected Team Captain as a Junior (2016).   My versatility on the field is demonstrated by All-Conference recognition at several positions (All-Conference Honorable Mention 2B – 2015 as Sophomore and 2nd Team All Conference Catcher – 2016 as a Junior).

I believe that my lifelong love for the game of baseball has been instrumental in making me the person I am both on and off the field.  My perseverance, work ethic and resilience help me to set my goals and expectations high and continue to work until I attain them.  I have been recognized with numerous academic and athletic awards, including being chosen as a member of the National Honor Society, Scholar-Athlete Awards, Cavalier Award (basketball 2015) and 2016 Offensive Player of the Year (baseball).

My goal is to play college baseball, finding the right fit at a school with academic rigor and a competitive baseball program.  I know that I can make a meaningful contribution at the next level and I look forward to hearing from college coaches interested in learning more.
