Anyone who truly knows me will tell you that baseball is ingrained in my identity. It has taught me the value of a strong, personal work ethic, teamwork, leadership and the importance of my own mental game.
When I was younger, I was often viewed as an underdog since I played with kids a year or two older than me. I had to rely on my tenacity and commitment to prove my value as a player andteammate. The extra work I spent on getting reps, even when I was exhausted from a long football or baseball practices, paid off and helped me earn the opportunity to start several varsity games my sophomore year.
As a catcher, I understand baseball is a gritty, tough game filled with failure and sacrifice and that makes me love it even more. Babe Ruth said, “Every strike brings me closer to the next home run.” Being confident enough to fail so that I can grow and develop fits my personality perfectly.
My coaches say I am hardworking, coachable and a born leader. My teammates unanimously elected me to represent the class of 2025 for the Baseball Leadership Council. Recently, I was selected as a team captain for my Titans travel team. This spring I was awarded the “Most Improved” by my varsity teammates and coaches. However, more than any other award I could receive, being titled “nicest teammate” by the upperclassmen was beyond the highest compliment.
Beyond baseball, I am a student. Academics play a significant role in my life and I have received four scholar-athlete awards during my high school career. As a two-sport high school athlete, I understand the importance of time management so I can perform my best on and off the field.
My daily routine includes meditation, positive affirmations, and visualizations as well as yoga. I learned to implement these skills during some mental and physical setbacks. I pride myself on being able to read situations and help my pitchers remain calm and productive, so they are comfortable, confident and able to perform their best. Each day I learn new things and I encourage and accept feedback from teammates and coaches so that I can continue to grow as a player and a teammate.
