Matthew Lannes '17 Recruiting Profile

As soon as I could hold a bat I was all about swinging it and trying to hit the ball.  I had the advantage of growing up in a baseball family.  My older brother played baseball so I spent most weekends at the ball park watching him play.  My father was a talented baseball player in his youth and even plays to this day on a men’s baseball league.  My baseball career began at the age of 4 with tee ball progressing to the varsity level.  I have always envisioned playing at the collegiate level and beyond. 

I am comfortable playing anywhere in the infield and outfield.  I have been mostly in the outfield this year at the varsity level because of my speed and agility and the ability to get to and field the ball and make the out. I am confident and have a strong arm and can power the ball to the cutoff and hold the runner.  I only made 1 error during my varsity season and put every effort into getting myself to the ball to make the out.  Previously I have played 2B, SS, 3B.   I am a power hitter for my team and was usually placed either 4 or 5 in the lineup.

I believe that a positive attitude goes a long way in sports.  I am always trying to improve my play and I am a positive influence with my teammates.  I enjoy connecting with the guys on my team and respect my coaches.  I take their advice to heart and make every effort to put it into action.  I am proud to be on the varsity team and feel like being a member of a collegiate team will be an honor.

To reach my goal of finding the right team to play on in college, I plan to study hard and graduate with honors and with an advanced diploma.  In addition, I am working hard this summer and fall to improve my game so that I can be a driving force on the varsity team in my junior and senior years of high school. I look forward to the process of exploring the many options available at the next level and hope to meet and play for you soon.
