Hard work and dedication has always been something I live by. I focus on these words in academics as well as sports. For example I was on the B honor roll my freshman and sophomore year but I didn't feel I earned that. Then my junior year came up, starting with football, I wanted to work hard and earn a starting spot. I took that feeling and pushed myself for good grades then got myself onto the A honor roll. Getting that taste of success made me want to get more of that feeling.
I have basically been a three sport athlete since I was about four, but as I grew up I found more of a passion for baseball. When I was younger I played quite a bit of third base, catcher, and pitcher but as I progressed I found outfield was the place I loved most. Growing up in a small town allows me to play more than one position, I am currently playing outfield, pitcher, and catcher. Playing multiple positions has allowed me to get a better understanding of the game which makes the game of baseball so much more fun. The relationships I have made playing the game are far more memorable than in any other sport I've played. Time is the dug out, on the bus, on the field, cheering for each other up to bat bring the team together as a family.
I don’t want to just be known as a student-athlete from Hillsboro, Wisconsin; I wanted to be known for so much more than that. So everyday I make sure to be the best person I can be to everyone in my school and community. This way of thinking has led me to become team captain for our football team and basketball team. I like to push others and myself to be the best version of ourselves.
My leadership skills, work ethic, and dedication are attributes I will apply to college academics as well as sports. I've had lots of people tell me that college sports are too hard because the coaches expectations are beyond what they can do. I want this challenge because the aftermath of meeting these expectations is worth all the hard work.
Baseball is the game that I want to be around for as long as I can. I understand that to play baseball at a college level is a privilege, not a right. It is an opportunity that few will be able to achieve, but I believe in myself and my skills. I understand that each player has a role on the team and I am willing to except that role and work my way towards my ultimate goal of being a starter and help the team have a successful season and have fun while we are doing it. I plan to make close relationships with the teammates because successful teams are like a family and I've noticed that first hand living in a small town where you play with your best friends everyday.
Thank you for taking the time to read my application and consider me for your team.
