Matt McHugh '16 Recruiting Profile

I am currently committed to play baseball at Southwestern Community College in the Fall of 2016. 

My name is Matt McHugh and I am currently an incoming Senior at Stevens Point Area Senior High. I play for the number one ranked legion team and defending state champion in the state of Wisconsin, the Plover Black Sox. I made the SPASH Junior Varisty baseball team in the spring of my freshman year. Freshman do not attend SPASH, due to the school being grades 10-12. There were only two freshman to make the team this year. This was a very big accomplishment for me. I am an outfielder, other than that I can also play first base very well. My best ability in baseball is hitting. I can hit for power, average, and bunt very well also. Driving in runners in scoring position was a strength of mine during the Junior Varsity season. Along with trying to be the best player I can be, I always want to help my team win anyway possible.
Coach Terpstra: "Matt is a tremendous left handed hitter. He has very good hands and can hit to all fields. He is very strong for his age and has good speed for his size. Matt is extremely coachable. He works very hard and eager to improve. He is very personable and is very selfless. I enjoy working with him very much."
Aside from baseball, academics is very important to me. Academics always comes before baseball. When I am not working at baseball, I am usually in the weight room or out at the track doing everything possible to strengthen my ability of being a successful baseball player. I want reach above and beyond the goal of playing college baseball and play at a very high level. It has always been my dream and I believe I have what it takes to compete at a high level of college baseball.
