My name is Karrie Wilson I am currently 16 years old and I attend high school in Maryland. I started cheerleading for my dads football team when I was in 3rd grade, slowly i started to be more interested in tumbling around. In 3rd grade i did a project on gabby Douglas i thought my road was down gymnastics but i always found my way back to cheer. In middle school I tried out for the cheer team, and I made it. High school is when things really got good for me regarding my cheer career. To make varsity you needed a backhand spring i had that but due to me trying out late i was placed on JV. I was a little frustrated because i wanted more of a challenge but I ended up really loving my team and coaches in our competition we placed 3rd place. we placed higher than our varsity team ever. The next year i made sure I made it to varsity i had the skill level and commitment need to succeed as a varsity cheerleader. I am self-taught most of my skills. I attended the national cheerleading association in Pennsylvania there i learned so much about keeping sharp motions and really getting my body used to back-to-back skills in one. I have always been a very fit and muscular child. During my stay at the camp i competed against many other cheerleaders and i got my first gold medal. I also competed in a dance competition for my team I unfortunately didn't place but it was still so fun and an amazing experience. I cheered sideline and competition. Academically i have struggled in certain classes but i always pushed through and made it so my Acedemic didn't affect me cheering. I attended a majority white school and i was the only African American on the cheer team. I was very well known as that i saw it as a good and bad thing. Since 7th grade i have dreamed of going to college and doing cheer. I love tumbling and I love stunting. I am well aware of all the struggles it is as a cheerleader making sure you keep yourself and body healthy, but all the "struggles" is what keeps me moving forward i love a good challenge. I know i will be a good candidate for the FSU cheer team because I work hard and I'm very passionate about working hard. I am a very fun and energetic person i love a good time and i love making people happy and the crowd and judges watching me, and the team cheer will make people happy. I think everyone wanting to get recruited has the same goal in a way we are all different in our ways but me specifically i just love cheering and i want to be the most successful person i can be i want to have fun safely i want to enjoy trying new things and i am smart i have learned so much from just getting out my comfort zone that it has made me even more passionate than ever. In the end i am grateful for everything that i have and if things don't work out i will still be grateful.
