Growing up I tried many sports and activities. My cousin who is three years older was a cheerleader on our town youth team. Once I saw her team perform I know I wanted to do it and I was hooked immediately. I started on one of our youth team as the only boy cheerleader in fourth grade it took a lot of courage.
I continued on the youth teams and loved the competitions. I asked my parents if they would sign me up for a local all-star cheer team in fifth grade. Every year I tried to move up in skill level from half year to full year teams. I have now been on an All Star Travel team competing in New England, New Jersey and Florida. I will learn any position asked of me.
While doing All Star Cheer I also have been on my varsity high school team for football and basketball cheer. I have coached youth cheer for the last two years as well, I love watching the kids improve and also helping compose their choreography routines. I like mixing music and cheer together. In May 2024 I was named Cheerleader of the Year for all of Premier Spirit Athletics.
Academically, I have some times struggled because I have ADHD. However, in the last year I realized in order to advance myself I need good grades and they are needed to compete. This year I joined an early college program and in my first class I received an A. I have been able to improve my grades while managing two cheer teams practice and travel requirements. I also coached at the same time.
Cheer is more than a passion for me. It has become a way of life, it has provided friendships, a desire to constantly improve and a purpose to strive academically. It would be a true honor to be a college cheerleader and would give any college athletic team all of my dedication to make the best it could be.
