Hello! My name is Avery, I am a junior at Canutillo High School in El Paso, Texas. I am a third-year varsity cheerleader and have been an all-star cheerleader for six years. Although I am proud of my past achievements, including a third-place finish at All-Star Worlds in 2023, I would like to focus on my future goals.
Unlike a college essay, this is a personal statement for cheerleading recruitment. If you are reading this, chances are you are familiar with the cheerleading world and already understand the personal, physical, and financial sacrifices required to excel in cheerleading.
I probably do not need to tell you that there are many great cheerleaders everywhere who come from big cities, large D1 gyms, and well-developed high school cheer programs. However, this is not the case for me. Where I come from, there are only a handful of all-star cheer gyms, and all are D2 small gym programs. These gyms have small squads, often with no alternates and limited resources, space, equipment, and coaching. Nevertheless, like me, they are not limited in their desire to become better cheerleaders and pursue the dream of cheering in college.
To achieve my goals, I regularly travel to other cities and gyms to find coed stunting instructors, tumbling instructors, and clinics, as these resources are not readily available in my area. Although my skills may not be as polished or advanced as those from larger cities or big-name gyms, I am equally dedicated, if not more. I am willing to put in the time and effort required to reach my goals, and I believe that I can be my best when I work with the best.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.
