My name is Aurelia Barker, and I am currently a junior at Thomaston High School in Connecticut. I'm a starting varsity three sport athlete (field hockey, basketball, and softball). Not only am I a key player on my high school team, but I play for an AAU basketball team out of Bristol, CT, called the CT Trotters. Field hockey specifically, I am a starting forward and have played for six years now. My sophomore year, the team and I were the co-champions of the Berkshire League, and we made it to the second round of the state tournament (losing to the eventual champion). I was named Berkshire league second team my sophomore year as well. Our team was also awarded the Lucy Goodridge Sportsmanship Award for the entire state of Connecticut. Winning this award was a team goal; to have been awarded something we all worked so hard to achieve was incredibly important to me and the team. As for this season, we unfortunately were not able to have a state tournament, but our team was the champion of the Berkshire League for the second year in a row, with a 13-0-0 undefeated season. Some highlights of mine this past season, my junior year, was being named athlete of the week in the Republican American for scoring five goals against Nonnewaug (on a turf field). I also was named first team all Berkshire League as well as first team All-State. As for my stats this season, I have scored 12 goals and made 12 assists. I am interested in playing at a collegiate level and continuing to work in a team environment.
As for academics, while being a student athlete, I maintain a 4.59 GPA out of 5. I am involved in school clubs like SAGE (environmental), B.I.O (beauty inside and out), and Interact (community service). I am an honor roll student and maintain perfect attendance. I have won awards like Student of the Month and Academic All-Star.
While being a student athlete, I balance a part time job at a local grocery store in Thomaston. Before COVID-19 I volunteered on a regular basis at a soup kitchen for the Thomaston Covenant Church and ushering at the Thomaston Opera House.
