Ever since I began field hockey in fifth grade I have been in love with the sport. My passion to play has increased ever more with practice, skill improvement, and the pure exhilaration of games. As a Junior, I recognize how much I want to continue field hockey in college, and hope to become part of a strong and positive team willing to work hard. In order to get to this level I train year round with: my Joel Barlow High school team in the fall, Fairfield County United club team, in the winter and spring, and several field hockey camps and clinics in the summer. I am also involved in track and crossfit in order to stay in shape for the game.
I am interested in a Division 3 small/medium size school that is rural or suburban, but I am keeping an open mind to many possibilities. It is very important for that the college has a strong science curriculum, where I could possibly major in biology. Academics are very important to me, but I also want to be involved with a field hockey team that possesses the same enthusiasm and drive for the sport as I do.
This summer I went to Argentina for three weeks as an exchange student to play field hockey and improve my Spanish. It was such a unique and eye opening experience to be immersed in the culture and language, work with a field hockey specific trainer, and play with the Argentine girls. Their hunger to win, and great passing skills definitly rubbed off on me, as I am executing these skills and mentality this Fall at Joel Barlow High School.
I try to give back to my community as often as possible which includes coaching a second grade field hockey team, being involved in a Dorothy Day soup kitchen, and doing community service with my team. On September 28, 2014 I held and organized a 7th and 8th grade tournament to raise money for Pathfinder Uganda, and organization that brings equipment and hosts clinics in Kampala, Uganda to teach school children how to play field hockey. There were six teams that participated and I was able to raise nearly $2,000 and 3 buckets of equipment donations. I plan on organizing The Uganda Play Day again next year, to spread the game to our friends in Uganda.
