One thing I love about field hockey is how it provides me with so many lessons in leadership. Placing 4th in state this year (for the first time in 20 years) and being put on Varsity as a freshman were both good experiences for me to learn how to be a leader. As one of the youngest on the team and also being a goalkeeper, I learned to communicate with the older girls and to be a strong voice from the cage during the game. These experiences also showed me the power of a strong team bond. Being in a stressful game and knowing that in this moment you have 10 girls on the field who would do anything for you and who are working as hard as you are, has created some of my best memories. And, practices, when we are just hitting around or I'm teasing one of the forwards after saving their shot, these are some of the happiest moments of my day.
I have many goals for the next steps in my field hockey career, from becoming an upperclassman that is looked up to, to winning state next year with my high school team, and continuing my playing in college. I know that to accomplish any of these goals, I will have to work hard and take every opportunity I get to improve my play.
I also love school and am a very academic student. In college, I want to study something science related in the hopes of one day becoming a doctor. I have already begun my path this year with 2 years of Physics and a successful year in Chemistry.
I am lucky to have had the opportunity to work with amazing coaches to whom I owe many of my field hockey successes. I want a school that can challenge me both academically and athletically, with coaches that want to teach me, with a team that cares about playing well and working hard as much as I do.
