Hello, my name is Emma Snyder and I am a freshman varsity field hockey starter on a very successful team. I am an honor roll student and a determined athlete. I set a goal to make the varsity team this year, on a team with 9 returning seniors. Not only did I achieve that goal, but I got a starting position! This reaffirmed that hard work and perseverance can pay off. My coach says I have tenacity in front of the goal.
I involve myself in athletics year round, but field hockey is my number one! I have been playing organized field hockey since age 7, but even before that I remember playing in the yard with my mom and twin sister, Anna. I play field hockey year round at my club and I also participate in the USA futures trainings. My main goal is to always improve my game, but I am also a team player. My strengths are in my dodging, passing and speed. I love beating my opponent to the ball or saving a pass from going out of bounds. I enjoy playing wing, but I am a versatile player and have played other positions on my club team.
My dream is to play in college and to find the right fit athletically and academically, but I would also love to be a part of a team that is like a family.
I have been fortunate to be on successful teams since third grade, with undefeated seasons and championships. I have learned how to accept a loss also though, and move on to the next game. I would have to say the hardest loss was this season in the semifinal game that went into 2 OT's. That was heartbreaking not only to lose, but to know that I will not play with these 9 seniors again. They will however always be a part of my field hockey family and next year, I will play for them and strive to make it to States.
I believe mental toughness is key to success as well. I experienced this first hand this past season when I was unhappy about my personal points. I worked through that difficulty and had some of my best games of the season in the playoffs. Mental toughness is such an important part of life and sports and I am glad to have learned how to be a mentally tough athlete.
I love the game of field hockey and I love helping to grow the game. I volunteer at our youth field hockey program assisting the coach at practice and games. I also enjoy being a part of my youth ministry group, Girl Scouts and the culture club.
I look forward to continue developing my skills and playing my best these next three years of high school and reaching my goal of playing field hockey in college. I would love to play at a school with my twin, Anna, but I am open to venturing out on my own too.
