I first stepped onto the field hockey field in seventh grade as a defender. I quickly learned the necessary skills needed on the field and pushed myself to be the best player I could be both on the field and on the sidelines. I maintained my defensive position throughout the rest of my middle school field hockey career.
When I began playing field hockey for my high school, I initially went to play on the defensive side of the field. However, as tryouts continued and nobody tried out to be goalkeeper, I volunteered to take on the challenging position. I knew I would have to push myself harder than I ever had before to learn all of the skills and the ways to be a goalkeeper all within the short duration of preseason. I made the varsity team as a goalie, and have fallen in love with the position.
Ever since the beginning of freshman year when I stepped up to fulfill the position of goalkeeper, I have strived to be the best player I can be for my team. After a beginning season freshman year, I decided to get involved with an indoor club team to improve my skills and gain the guidance of a goalie coach. I participated with an indoor team and continued to learn and refine my skills in the goal, and look forward with excitement to continuing my journey.
Throughout my high school career, I have learned how to become a leader on my team while maintaining a high GPA and my position in the National Honor Society, all the while focusing on athletics, and volunteering with my school's Key Club. I have competed in many tournaments for field hockey, both indoor and outdoor. My skills have drastically improved within the past few years, and I plan on continuing to increase those skills in the coming years.
Since I fell in love with being a goalkeeper, I have come to the conclusion that I want to play in college. I have been playing team sports since I was four years old, including soccer, lacrosse, basketball, and field hockey. Playing team sports have helped to form the person I have become today, and I look forward to evolving with the teams that I am blessed to be apart of.
