Personal Statement

Hello! My name is Sarah Luby and I’m currently attending Sparrows Point High School, which is a 1A conference school in Baltimore, Maryland. Academically the SPHS Environmental Science magnet, of which I belong, is well respected among county schools and we have an involved student body.

Some of my accomplishments in high school are 2nd team all-county top division during my freshman year, 1st team all-county top division sophomore year and have been a starter on varsity all years of my high school career in not only field hockey but for varsity lacrosse as well.  I have also been a starter for the indoor track team for two years and during my sophomore season was part of the regional champion 4X800 relay team. I was also an alternate on the Region 7 Futures U16 team in 2014.

Some characteristics that you should know about me are that I’m responsible, funny, determined, kind, open hearted and curious.  I want to do many things in life and making a difference on my college hockey team is one of them.  What is also just as important to me is getting a quality education that I then can apply in the real world.  I play on the Baltimore Stix club team and I have been a committed member since the beginning of the program.  I have learned a lot through playing with this club throughout the years and would like to continue to grow and learn in the game throughout college.

Some things I accomplished on my club team are for our 2014 Disney college showcase I was chosen as a captain for the tournament and we moved on to the medal round in the Disney 2013 tournament.  Some statistics that define me as an athlete are that I’m in 90-100% of the game and disrupt 75% of the corners that I fly out on defensively.  Academically, my intended college major keeps changing as I gain more knowledge about who I am as a person.  My majors that I have in mind are Environmental, Civil, Biomedical and Chemical Engineering along with cell research, infectious disease and cancer studies.  Other areas of interest are emergency room medicine and Psychiatry.

I can offer a lot to any team because I would like to think that I play a leadership role by communicating on the field and making sure everyone is having fun off the field.  Making sure that you have a good relationship with your team is very important and for my high school team I help us all get along by helping organize team gathering and other team bonding activities.

Field Hockey is a part of me because it’s something that keeps me going.  No matter how bad my day is, if I have a game or practice or just a few shots on goal, I feel better because I instantly relax and go hard the whole time.   Playing quality college field hockey has always been a dream of mine since I realized how important it is to me and the impact I can have while being part of a team.  I coach a recreational team in the community and the girls would come to see my games and I would help them with school.  We met through hockey and whenever we see one another they ask if I’m coaching and I say yes because I can’t let them go.  I hope I can get them to love field hockey as much as I do.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
