My name is Ella Costa and I am a junior at Gloucester High School in Gloucester, Massachusetts. I began my field hockey journey in 6th grade and have loved it ever since. I have always enjoyed playing the sport, but when I entered high school I started to take it more seriously; realizing that it is something I want to pursue. Freshman year I started on varsity as a forward, but I have now moved back to an offensive midfielder. I enjoy this position since it gives me the opportunity to be fulfill my captain's responsibilities and be a vocal leader on the field. In the midfield, I get to use both my offensive and defensive skills in addition to being a key part of defensive corners, inserting on offensive corners, and taking penalty strokes for my team. I like to consider myself a well rounded athlete and student that will bring a lot to the college or university I attend. I have also started on varsity ice hockey and lacrosse since my freshman year and now serve as a captain in these sports as well.
Outside of sports, I participate in Student Council as the Vice President of my class, interact club, and the Anti Defamation League (ADL). These programs help me engage with my school community in a much different way than sports. It also allows me to go beyond the school community to start becoming more involved in the Gloucester community. They also help me enhance my leadership and communication skills that I use in sports as well. My goals for college are to study something involving math and science. I really aspire to be an engineer. I love the idea of being a creator and my computer science and robotics classes are where I truly enjoy myself the most.
