Hi, my name is Kaleigh Longenecker and I’m a junior at Haverhill High School. I began my athletic journey as a soccer player starting around the age of 5. Knowing my passion for soccer wasn’t as strong as I would want it to be if I wanted to play in high school, so I decided to try something new. My mom had played field hockey in high school and told me to consider. I knew from the first time picking up the stick, this sport was from me and my love for the game has continued to grow. I’ve been a varsity starter since my freshman year, being able to pick up on the sport fairly fast due to being an overall athlete. I am the youngest with one older brother, which has made me competitive, hard working, and determined.
On the turf, either practicing or a game, I am always ready to go and hustling. I’m a versatile player which my coaches will utilize by putting me in on defense or offense when this position is needing some help. I’ve committed to being a midfielder at heart, having the mind of both an offensive and defensive player. Being able to read the field and make quick, smart passing decisions truly sets me apart from other athletes. I am a leader both on and off the field, being told by coaches that my “leadership is must appreciated for the team” and I’m honored to say I have received the position of being a captain for my next season. I’ve been told I am also “easily coachable”, having the ability to listen, understand, and take action.
In addition to field hockey, I’ve also been a three year, going on four as of next season, varsity indoor track and field runner. I’ve been doing track since I was in fourth grade, being in love with running since I was young. I am a sprinter for my team, running the 300 Meter, 55 Meter, and 4x200 Meter. I also have consistently thrown shot put, being the second best on our team. For my spring sport season, I play midfield for our girls lacrosse team. Taking up the sport as of last year, I have decided I will continue this sport for the next two spring seasons, falling in love with not only the sport, but also the team. Team is one of the most important factors for me. Having good relationships with your teammates and coaches is a big element in winning a game for any sport. The bond I have created with my teams is unbreakable and I am so thankful for all the friendships I have created with them.
When I’m on the turf, or running on a track, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, playing with my dog, and spending time with my family. Not only do I try to make time for the important people in my life, but also school. School has been one of the most important things in my life since I was young. School is something I take very seriously and by doing this, it allows me to complete school work in sufficient times and then still have time for the people in my life, work, and sports. I also think it’s very important to serve and give back to my community. I’ve done community service at a soup kitchen called Bread & Roses in our downtown city. I also went on a week long Mission Trip through my church down to Wilmington, Delaware. There were able to repair homes for the less fortunate. Not only did we repair homes for them
