"ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE" FROM WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S AS YOU LIKE IT
My Stage happens to be on the field hockey field. There is nothing I like more than the sound of my field hockey stick hitting the ball, whether I am scoring a goal or making an awesome pass. I started playing field hockey at the age of 8. I have been playing for Gateway Club St Louis for 9 years. Some of my best memories are traveling with my team. The bonding we share both on and off the field and the friendships we have created will last a lifetime.
My freshmen year at Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School could not have been more perfect! I had the opportunity to start and play every minute of every game ( over 750 minutes for the season). This allowed me to grow as a player and be a leader on and off the field. I scored 10 goals and 16 assist. I was awarded the 2016 Most Valuable Midfielder Award. The season ending could not have been more perfect when I scored the Winning 1 V 1 goal for the Metro League JV Tournament Championship. ( see attached video or go to you tube Skyler Lesslie) The best part was watching the video ( that went viral) and seeing my coaches reaction! This is what a player lives for, making both their coaches and teammates proud. Being invited to join the MICDS Varsity Field Hockey Team as a freshmen was a dream come true!
I work hard on and off the field and in the classroom. I always give 110 percent. I set my goals high! When I hear someone say " they can't do this or that"" I say you never know unless you try". I will always work hard for what I want. I am not a quitter, I will keep trying until I achieve my goals.
My dream is to play field hockey in college. I know I have 3 more wonderful years at MICDS and with my club, where I have the best coaches in the world to help guide me and help fulfill my dream. I also plan to attend lots of field hockey camps, clinics and tournaments. I play JV squash and lacrosse for MICDS, which is a great way to train and stay fit.
In my free time I am an Artist. Whether I am drawing, painting, building or gluing something, it is my quiet time. I like to give back to my church and community. I volunteer every Sunday at church ( when I am not playing field hockey). My sister and I have found an organization that touched our hearts. It is called The Saint Patrick Center in St. Louis. It's mission is to help veterans and families on the verge of becoming homeless and in need. My sister and I organized a collection called Warm Up St. Louis at our school to collect coats, hat, gloves and socks for The Saint Patrick's Center. I am a Team Captain for the Pot of Gold Program for The Saint Patrick Center. I volunteer at my school with open houses and giving tours and making friends with the buddy program.
I know it sounds like I have a busy life. But I like staying busy, it keep me organized. I have learned how to manage my time and work ahead on my school assignments. Getting good grades is very important to me too. I know it takes discipline, determination and hard work to play and compete at the college level and I am up for the challenge!
FUN FACT: I have performed on another stage once upon a time: I danced in The Nutcracker Ballet with The Russian Moscow Ballet and The Joffrey Ballet. Field Hockey players have many gifts and talents! Don't be fooled just because they carry a field hockey stick ( there are many other sticks in their bag).
