Sports have always been a huge part of my life. When I was younger I used to watch my older brothers play football, and knew I wanted to play myself. In first grade, I started playing football, and played for three years. The last year I played was the year I started tackle, and my dad was not a fan. When my fourth grade year came around he suggested that I try field hockey. I was sad to leave football, but I decided to give field hockey a try. I started off that year as a defensive player because I was still not sure about playing. It was a fun season overall, but I wasn’t fully invested yet. The next season we started playing with goalies, and I volunteered because I liked wearing a helmet and pads. That was the season when I really started taking field hockey more seriously. After that season, I knew that was the position I was going to play.
6th grade was a big year for me. My rec team won the NJ/PA tournament and I joined the NJ Starz club team. I have loved playing with my team all year in various tournaments and during the winter indoor season. Working one on one with a goalie coach on my club team has also helped me continue to improve.
Playing field hockey for my high school, which has a very strong program, was exciting as I started my freshman year. The only other goalie was a senior and she was a great mentor to me during the season. Unfortunately, the pandemic cut our JV season a little short, but our team was undefeated and we learned a lot about playing at a higher level.
I am looking forward to the rest of my high school career and excited about the possibility of continuing field hockey in college.
