Hi, my name is Kayla Siemer, and I am a Junior at West Milford High School, in Northern New Jersey. The sport of Field Hockey has been apart of my life for over 6 years and it's been my passion ever since I first picked up a stick in 5th grade. I am a two year letter recipient and received Second Team All-County and Second Team All- Conference honors as a Junior. The athletic skill, and mainly the advanced mindset of the game, has always led me to continue to expand my abilities on and off the field. And it is the reason I would love to continue my field hockey career at the next level; college.
I believe if you were to ask any player, coach or spectator to describe my play, one word would come to mind; intensity. When it comes to my passions, I never cease to give it my all. Ever since the first time my high school coach, Krista Provost, saw me play in 5th grade she always remarked about the natural aggression I had; it was something that couldn’t be taught.
One of the most impactful experiences of my life that shaped me into the person and player I am today, was an injury. During the summer before my freshman season, I unfortunately broke my toe at a Field Hockey college camp. Although a minor injury, it left me in a boot for months missing out on the majority of the season and my opportunity to gain experience from playing up on the junior varsity team. Even through many didn’t believe I’d advance in the program, I gave it all I had in the off season. I attended every skills clinic or camp I could find or practiced at the turf alone for hours on end. That following season I received a spot on the varsity roster as the only one who played on the freshman team the previous season. This experience has taught me to never give up; even when others oppose you or the odds are against you, putting in the efforts will always bring you success. I live by this lesson, filling everything I do with intensity, and truly building my overall work ethic, whether its on the field, in the classroom or any job that comes my way.
