My name is Lynn McClain. I currently attend Norwin Senior High School in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. I am a goalie on the Norwin Field Hockey team. I am a very outgoing player and I am always trying something new. As a team player, I always keep the team motivated and to never let a game get to them emotionally.
I am also a goalie who has a disability. I have a hearing disorder called Auditory Neuropathy. In other words, I am deaf in my right ear. Doctors say I would not be able to play sports, ride a bike, or dance. Now, at age 17, I am playing field hockey like a “normal” high school girl. I proved to the doctors that deaf people CAN do anything that they set their mind too, just as people who are not deaf can.
Especially, being deaf can help with my school skills. Most deaf people have a hard time learning in the math, science, english, and history classes. You would not be able to tell when put in a classroom setting. Being deaf does take on some challenges, but I can face them with no problems.
