Personal Statement

Ever since I could remember, I wanted to become an athlete.  Football has always been one of the favorite sports in my family.  Both of my parents were born in Massachusetts, so I grew up a huge Patriots fan.

Julian Edelman is the player that inspired me to become a receiver.  I see many similarities between myself and Julian.  He started out as a quarterback and over his career transitioned into a Super Bowl MVP champion wide receiver.  He is a grinder, tough, smart, and full speed on every play.  His passion for the game is remarkable and shows through in all his accomplishments. His NFL journey is truly inspiring.

Playing receiver is important to me because my older brother is a QB and we train and  run many plays together.  Being a multi-sport athlete is how I grew up.  I enjoyed playing many years of Baseball, Hockey, Track, but Football is by far my favorite sport.

My father played college football and my brother recently committed to play college football this fall.  I look up to them for guidance and support.  I realized that playing football in college will enable me to fulfill my dreams to play my favorite sport at a high level while I study for my Kinesiology / Exercise Science degree.

I have many coaches to thank for helping me achieve this dream.  I have to thank Coach Dylan Bradley, my receiver coach.  I've been working with him for over a year, he keeps telling me that there is a college football program out there for anyone willing to work hard for it.

Another coach is Kapena Olsen.  He was our new defensive backs/ wide receivers coach at Esperanza High School.  He would push us to our limits and conduct intense college level workouts with us.  I took great leaps in my Junior year.  This was my first year starting many games on varsity as outside linebacker and slot receiver.  It was very rewarding since we won our CIF Southern Section Division Championship for the first time in 27 years at my high school !!

The gym, weight room, field, and track all helped me prepare for this past season. I came in as a freshman at 110 lbs and started my Junior year at 170 lbs.  I added another 15 lbs. of muscle since season’s end and I am now 185 lbs.

I ran a 40 yard dash at 5.5 as a freshman and the start of my Junior year was running a 4.8.  Personally, I've always wanted to push to get better.   But most importantly, I want to support and inspire my teammates and to see me as a good role model on the field, in the locker room, and in the classroom.

The spring 2020 training season has been tough and strange all in one.  I found a way to train and work to get better.  You have to learn to become a self-starter and more creative with no gyms, no routines, or encouragement from seeing coaches.

There were many distractions with friends and electronics, however I wanted to take advantage of this pandemic.  I have a strong Christian faith and felt there was a reason for all that is happening in our lives.  We have been given a chance to rise above the losses and uncertainties.  Since I am blessed to have a quarterback for a brother,  I am thankful to have been able to be able to keep my hands and routes crisp and fresh.

I am a senior now and I need to step-up and become a strong leader on the field and the classroom.

Football is a part of who I am and I know that as I grow in football so will my love for the game.  This is also why I am majoring in Kinesiology / Exercise Science so I can work with players and help them train and stay healthy in their respective sports.  I am excited to further my journey into college and beyond.  I will be a strong asset to your program year after year and willing to do what it takes to help the team succeed.

Thank you
