Hello my name is Jake Galster and I am a senior at Aptos High School. I have been the starting kicker on the varsity team the past 3 years. I was first pulled up to varsity my freshman year for CCS playoffs. It was a great experience; because we were able to play 5 more games and went on to play in a Northern California championship game against McClymonds High School. I was given the opportunity to kick a PAT in the opening round of CCS against Terra Nova High School with my brother as the PAT holder. This certainly was a career highlight for our family. For me it is difficult to find just one highlight because I love being a part of the team and simply enjoy playing the game.
I have grown up in a sports household. We were always playing, watching, and going to sporting events. I grew up mainly playing flag football, soccer, and baseball. As soon as I could walk I’ve been working to keep up with my older brother. Everything in our house is a competition. It’s this competition that helped me develop my skills as a kicker. I have put in the extra work to help develop this craft.
I have kicked all four years of my high school career, 3 years on varsity. I have over 100 varsity career PAT’s (.963) as a Mariner. I am currently 4 for 6 on field goals this year with a long of 44 yards and I still have a few games left in my senior season. I consistently work on my kicking every day and I continually strive to grow as a player.
I have been lucky enough to play all 3 varsity seasons under Coach Randy Blankenship, who is one of the winningest high school football coaches in California history with over 300 career wins. Aptos High has a strong football program with a demanding year round commitment and high expectations from its players. Coach Blankenship has taught our team a lot about football as well as a lot about life. I know the lessons I have learned will not only help me continue to be a successful football player, but also a successful student. We have been taught to be humble, work hard, and have no sense of entitlement. If you put in the work, good things will come. I have a very strong work ethic and am a very coachable athlete.
Off the field I am an honor roll student currently with a 3.95 GPA and taking AP courses. I would like to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom as well as the football field. I’m open to all opportunities and look forward to finding the right college match both athletically and academically. I aspire to be a successful student, athlete, and role model and will make a great addition to the right school’s football team and community. I look forward to speaking to you about your program and school.
