I've always been involved with sports from a very young age, but it wasn't until I reached the High School level of sports where I really got to experience teamwork and real competitiveness. I was new to football but very interested in learning something new. I have learned to understand and appreciate my role as a non-starting team player. Just being part of a team, is a blessing. When it's my turn to play, I always give it my all, even if it's just for a few downs. Over the years, I have gotten used to understanding that the way I practice is the way I will play the game, so during practice, I get into "game mentality" to better prepare myself for actual game days.
Each player has an important role on the team, so even if I am not a starter, it doesn't mean that I'm not significant to the team. Each player brings a unique characteristic to the team that is beneficial. As long as I am a member of my team, I am content with my role. I just want to make sure that I give my best on and off the field and help make our team the best that it can be.
Playing sports in High School has helped me to stay motivated in my academics because of the requirements. As I got older, I began to see my improvements in both academics and sports and I am proud of the person that I have become. Playing on team sports has taught me the importance of being responsible for my actions as well as helping my other teammates. Integrity in everything I do and taking accountability is key to improving mentally and physically, in sports as well as in life.
