Personal Statement

My name is Justus Spillner and I am currently a senior at Colfax High School in Colfax, CA. I am 6 foot 4 inches tall and weigh 220 pounds. My last timed 40 was in May 2014 and was 4.81.

If you are viewing my profile and wonder why I have not uploaded any game film this year, well let me explain. I transferred from my old High School (Nevada Union) towards the end of my junior year (2015). My old high school's principal contested my transfer and the California governing body (CIF) determined my transfer was "Athletically Motivated". The ruling ultimately restricted me from playing my senior year.

My current football coach, Tony Martello from Colfax High School, allowed me to compete in the summer passing league in preparation for the upcoming season. During the summer session, I threw for over 1500 yards and approximately 35 TD's. Since transferring from Nevada Union High School, which ran a Wing T offense, to Colfax High School, which runs a spread offense, I have picked up the new offense in less than 5 months and did exceptionally well during the summer sessions. I was slated to be the starting QB once I cleared my eligibility however, as you just read, I was restricted from playing.  (I have unpublished film of my summer session if you would like it sent to you via email)

My senior year was non-existent and it has been very difficult watching my team compete without me. I could easily make excuses and be upset at the situation however, my family and I have the belief everything happens for a reason. I have taken this unfortunate situation and made it my driving force to get better and be more passionate about the sport I love. I have trained non-stop improving my game, speed, and strength in preparation for playing football at the next level. Once I get back in the locker room and on the field, I will show everyone how hard I have been working to achieve my goal.

This past summer I attended the Elite 11 camp May 17th in Oakland, CA. I also attended many one day camps at Fresno State, Sacramento State, Azusa Pacific, and the So Cal Elite Camp to try and get recognized by college coaches. Over the years, sports have taught me self discipline, responsibility, leadership, and doing your very best when the coaches aren't watching. My post High School dreams include getting an education in the medical field and playing football at the highest level for as long as possible. I know it will take 100% effort from me in the classroom and on the field to achieve my dreams however, I believe I am fully capable of this task. My preferences of schools are somewhat undecided however, I want to play for and study at whatever school sees me as a great fit both in the classroom and on the field.

Update: January 2016

In preparing for football at the next level, I am back in the gym lifting, on the field working on my footwork, speed, and accuracy and feel 100% ready to lead a team to great success. If given the opportunity to lead a team, you will not be disappointed. If these words are not enough and my film doesn't show what potential I have, please call me, come watch a training session, or have me for a visit and I will show you what I can do. All I am is a player waiting for an opportunity.

Thanks again for reading this.
