Being a starter on a Varsity team since my freshmen year has been an incredible experience that I realize few get to enjoy. I was able to join a team that was only in its second year, providing me with an amazing opportunity to not only play on the team but to help grow and develop a program for my school. In my sophomore year, the third year of our football program, my team made it to the playoffs. What an incredible season that was! The following year ( as a junior) I was selected as one of the team captains, an honor usually reserved for seniors. I also had the opportunity to participate in the hiring of a new coach after my head coach stepped down for family reasons. I was honored that my teammates, assistant coaches, and school administration valued my opinion enough to have me participate in this important process.
My experiences have taught me what it means to be a leader on and off the field. In my Junior year, when I was leading the nation in receiving yards, our quarterback was injured and out for the season. I wanted to continue as a wide receiver but my team and coaches needed me to step in as our new quarterback. I took on the position as I continued to watch my stats drop. As hard as it was to sacrifice being a leading wide receiver, I was proud to serve my team and coaches in whatever capacity they needed me. This helped me grow as a person and become a stronger leader. I was thrilled my team awarded me with the MVP award at the end of the year for my dedication to my team.
As a dual athlete and student enrolled in all AP classes for my senior year, I hope to find a program that will challenge me both academically and athletically. I know what it takes to work hard on and off the field. I take my studies and my role on a team very seriously. I am very coachable and I have an incredible work ethic. I look forward to hearing from you and the opportunity to make a difference on your team and at your school.
