Dear Prospective Coaches,
My name is Jacob "Jake" Murphy, and I am currently a student at Buena High School in Ventura, CA, class of 2022.
This season I had over 1,550 rushing yards, averaging over approx. 10 YPC, and scored 18 TD's in 12 games. Over the last few years I was recognized with the following: 2018 MVP, 2020 Offensive MVP, 2020 All Pacific View League team as "Top Offensive Back" and I was elected by the Ventura County Football Coaches Association as the "1st Team All County Running Back". I'm proud to say that I was a main contributor to our team beating our crosstown rival for the first time in 11 years, our team going undefeated in league games, and our program making it to the CIF championship game for the first time in our schools 60 year history.
I'm 6' and weigh 205 lbs., I am the team’s starting running back and returner.
In addition to football, I have played multiple sports over the years including baseball and track. At last record, my 40-yard dash was recorded at 4.6 seconds. Over the past year, I have been dedicated to developing my personal strength by maintaining a very structured weight room regimen and participating in beach workouts with a former coach to improve my speed and agility. I plan to continue running track when it resumes and working with trainers in the off season.
In addition to my enthusiasm for football, I am dedicated to serving my community. After college graduation, I would like to begin my career in a local police or fire department. I am planning to major in criminal justice or fire science and look forward to my studies in one of these areas.
Playing football has taught me valuable life lessons that I feel will help me excel as a first responder. I began playing football when I was six years old, and I have loved every aspect of the sport and what it has taught me. Over the last eleven years, I have learned the importance of quick thinking, observation, communication, and teamwork while developing strong relationships with my teammates of various backgrounds. I am a strong believer on the importance of inclusion and respect.
These lessons have been reinforced through my involvement with Boy Scouts. Scouts has helped me further develop the self-confidence and leadership skills that I can use on the field and in my studies. Currently, I am working on my Eagle Badge requirements which include training in first aid, lifesaving, citizenship, communication, and many other important life skills.
I attribute much of my work ethic, strong moral character, dedication, and leadership to the lessons I have learned as a scout and athlete. Balancing my athletic and community activities along with school has taught me time management, goal setting, commitment, and perseverance.
I take pride in my passion for football and trust that I will be a good addition to the right school's football program and academic community.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Jake
