Ever since I was young, I have had a passion and love for the sport of football. I am an explosive athlete standing at 5’9” 185lbs. I am a big play threat at any position on the field. Football has been my greatest teacher. One of the most valuable life lessons that it has taught me is when I get knocked down, I have to get back up. This lesson extends beyond the football field to all aspects of my life because when I stumble or fail, I must have grit and determination to turn this minor obstacle into an opportunity for growth. As a captain of the football team my junior year, I struggled during the Homecoming Game. Personally, the pressure of my position, identifying my teammates' mental struggles and lack of physical performance became overwhelming. Although we lost, valuable lessons were learned, and the coaches worked with us at the following practices on perseverance and the mental aspects of the game that held us back that night. Losing the Homecoming game motivated me and my teammates to work harder in practice and strive for excellence not perfection.
Participation in football has positively impacted my psychological and social development, which are skills that I will carry with me long after I hang up my cleats. Football requires a unique brand of teamwork that taught me to understand the roles of all the positions, and most importantly, it trained me to trust my teammates. In addition, football taught me the value of discipline by requiring me to be timely, follow the rules, and learn the plays. These lessons will benefit my career and my family life because I have the power and inner strength to follow through in all of my endeavors. Perseverance is another skill that this sport provided me, and this will support my future by assisting me in possible financial setbacks, personal issues, or denied job promotions. My devotion to the game of football is attributed to the joy that it brings me and the valuable life-lessons that it continues to teach me.
