Aside from athletics and academics, I find a lot of passion in being a leader in my community. At a younger age, I was a lot more closed off and shy; however, as I grew older, I actively put myself in leadership roles. I have played a key role in the school's student government, as I served as historian, secretary, vice president, and hopefully in the near future, president. In my church, I get to pursue a passion of music while also serving as a leader in the worship band. Lastly, I am involved in an advisory council with the state health department. It is a group of 15 or so other peers who consult companies, projects, and movements about how it could be improved. These three leadership roles have taught me that as a leader, I have to hold myself to a higher standard in everything I do. As a leader, one is put into a position in which all eyes rest upon the actions of that individual. With any journey there are road bumps; however, I chose to not let those moments define who I was as a person, yet instead, I grew and learned from mistakes and became an even stronger leader. I have also learned that there is no limit on how and when you can learn. As a part of the youth advisory council, I have learned so much about not only health but also life. Being a very diverse group, these peers have taught me to see all perspectives in a situation and to look at all angles before proceeding.
These leadership roles have improved my ability to lead on the football field tremendously. As a leader on a two time state championship winning football team, I know that I can carry my leadership role with me into college. I will be a positive influence no matter what role of the team I am placed in.
