I had a late start to football because of my mother’s concerns about injuries. However, I have always been physical - wrestling with my father (who wrestled for two years at Yale) and my twin brother as well as playing front court in basketball. Freshman year during the first week of football, I underwent an unfortunate accident when I fell while playing on wet grass and broke my tibia and fibula. I tirelessly worked to rehabilitate the leg so that it was stronger than before.
I have realized a few key things about myself that are essential to football and everyday life. Not only do I enjoy putting defensive linemen into the ground, but football has allowed me to take on more leadership roles: picking up a fallen teammate, encouraging teammates to always strive to be better, boosting the spirits of a teammate who has made a mistake, and looking out for the younger players.
I am really good at language, studying both French and Italian, with plans to study Russian. I have envisioned myself pursuing a career in business, perhaps with international aspects. I have always been a massive human being, which sometimes causes people before they speak to me to be intimidated, but off the field I have always gone out of my way to be considerate to others and help wherever I can. I have no trouble making friends, and I enjoy being the life of the party, telling bad jokes I find online to anyone who will listen. In earlier years, I enjoyed participating in musical theater and choir.

Dear Coach Lee and Teddy,
On Wednesday Willy MacMullan, the Head of School at Taft, texted me out of the blue during your game against them. I thought you would appreciate his messages to me. He is a huge sports fan.
WM: Watching basketball. Kent has a very big kid #35 and I really admire his effort and grit.
MH: I believe that is a boy from Colorado. Great kid.
WM: He has no give up in him. And I sensed an unselfishness and humility as well--rare stuff, to me anyway--but visible.
Well done #35 and coach.
Mr. Hirschfeld
