My name is Deion Yates. I am Student Athlete from Washington DC and I am 5'8" 160lbs Junior with a 3.9 GPA. I play Cornerback and Slot Receiver at Kipp College Preparatory Senior High School. You may wonder where my parents got the name Deion from? I was named after Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. By researching the person in which I was name after, football caught my attention and I studied becoming a Cornerback. I’ve been playing football since I was 4 years old. Football is not just a sport to me; it’s a lifestyle. Football has taught me integrity, perseverance and discipline. As a freshman, I started at the CB position on JV and I played CB position on Varsity, both Sophomore and Junior year. This year, KCP won the league championship and I am grateful to work with great coaches and teammates. I am a natural leader and would make sacrifices that is better for the team and not for just me, because teamwork is major aspect of my personality toward the game. I work hard off and on the field. When it comes to academics, I am well grounded and committed to achieve greatness in the classroom. I am determined to stay persistent in my academics throughout college. I would like to major in Computer Engineering. As I look back over my life, I overcame many obstacles, a death of a friend and injuries to other friends due to senseless violence. I would like an opportunity to be great after high school and to make my family proud.
