First off, I would like to say that I thrive in pressure and love the moments where it’s all up to me to win the game. With that being said, my football passion started freshman year against the school rivals when I kicked the game winning field goal. After that, everything fell in to place and I found my passion. I first started playing summer of my 9th grade year, I was moving to a new school and I had played soccer my whole life so I figured I would try it out. Turns out I won the starting job for the varsity team, beating out a senior, junior, and a sophomore. I think that example right there is a testament to my work ethic and how driven I am. But, the people who have most shaped me as an athlete and a man are my grandma, mom, dad, and my high school football coach. Some things that I base my life off of are integrity, work ethic, determination, honesty, giving, and passion. I am unique in the sense that I love the process and I love the weight room. But my resume as an athlete includes playing soccer for 10 years, and football for two. I was awarded first team all-region in soccer last year and I am on track to achieve that again.
To Whom It May Concern:
I have had the distinct privilege of coaching David Vaughn in Football, Soccer and in the Weight Room for the past two years. David has been our Football Kicker (Punter, PAT/FG, Kickoff), Defender/Midfielder, and a member of our Power Lifting and Olympic Lifting Teams. He is a naturally gifted athlete and excels in a variety of sports. On the gridiron he is a deadly punter, pin-point accuracy as a place kicker, as well as, a live leg on kickoffs. In sum, he is the total package in the Kicking Game.
On the pitch, he plays with exceptional pace coupled with an uncanny anticipation and reaction. In addition, he competes with reckless abandon and challenges for every 50/50 ball in the air or on the ground. He possesses phenomenal range, speed, and quickness. He covers and dominates the midfield from 18 to 18 and sideline to sideline. David’s overall physical conditioning is phenomenal.
In the weight room, David has an insatiable thirst and integrity for excellence. He’s a master technician that sets the standard within our weight room. Hence, he is the lifter who makes his teammates better. Pound for pound he’s one of our strongest lifters.
As football coach I have coached dozens of college football players, four of whom have played in the NFL. Like these athletes, David, has the burning desire, dedication, or discipline for success. His passion is undeniable and contagious. He is one of the most coachable athletes I have ever been associated with. No matter the task or suggestion he will seek to improve to the best of his ability. I guarantee whatever program that is lucky enough to sign David Vaughn they will have a diamond. In sum, it has been my fortune and honor to have coached so rare a student-athlete.
