My collegiate goals are to get recruited to a Division I or II Football program with a full scholarship to allow me to graduate with a degree in engineering (civil) and achieve my aspiration of playing football at the professional level. I would like to also like to possibly play a dual sport of Baseball should the opportunity be available. Whether by athletics or degree, my overall collegiate goal is to break the labor intensive, low wage, career trajectory set by generations of the Hawaiian/Polynesian community and change my own family’s lives for the better. Being from a family that greatly values hard work, integrity, and dedication; I know that playing football at the collegiate level is a necessary stepping stone to all future goals and aspirations.
What makes me stand out from other recruits is my inherent use of the values of hard work, integrity, and dedication though my behavior, actions, and choices in athletics and academics. My work ethic is more likened to that of my father’s and grandfather’s generation that knows what good work ethic is and puts it into practice not just words. I believe that education is a privilege not a right and therefore, I will do what is needed to achieve in the classroom and the field. I value and appreciate any opportunity to learn from coaches, teachers, and anyone in the position to share their knowledge and their perspectives. I value criticism more than praise since it is the things we have to work at that define our character. I do the work and put in the time it takes to continually improve my skills. I understand the responsibility that is expected when a person represents larger entities and organizations. I know the value of leadership and the responsibility of and expectation of leading by example.
What makes me stand out from other recruits that may have the same goal of getting a full scholarship to a Division I or II school? I will never stop proving to that institution that their investment in me was well worth it, will never be taken for granted, and will be rewarded by my achievements and results on the field, in the classroom, and my future accomplishments as an alumnus.
