Personal Statement

Aloha,
I am Malachi Chavez, a senior at H.P. Baldwin High School in Maui, Hawaii. I am a Alpha 1 starting Wide Receiver for our varsity football team. I have been playing football since I was in elementary school. Ever since the first time I stepped on the field, I have aspired to play at the highest level of the game. My dream is playing at the collegiate level now that I will soon be graduating from high school. I know that playing in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could change my whole future, and I am completely dedicated to putting in the work and discipline to make it to the next level.
I come from a strong family who have been supportive of my dreams since day one. They continue to help push me to achieve my potential and to never give up. I have also been on the wrestling team during my years in junior high school, winning personal medals as well as team awards and championships. This has groomed me to have even more grit and dedication as a student athlete. This has also given me more versatility in working on my self to also improve the team. I am continuously looking for ways to improve my skills, as well as train myself to become stronger, faster, and whatever is needed to reach my goals. I am naturally a team leader and I always try to lead by example. I do this by putting in the effort and work myself, while also encouraging my teammates and friends to do the same. I want to always continue to lean and improve and I am very coachable and strive to be one of the humblest and hardest working players on the team, and I will be one of the hardest working recruits you’ll find.
In the classroom, I strive to maintain a high GPA. I also volunteer at local youth programs and I have also volunteered at one of the shelters here with some of my other football teammates during the tragic August Wildfires that devastated our community here on Maui. I have made strong friendships with athletes from other schools and sports programs from my many years of different sports and clubs that I have participated in. This has made me committed to good sportsmanship and also helping my community wherever possible.
My goal is to attend a college where I can continue to challenge myself in the classroom and on the football field. I am flexible and open to explore different options and want to ultimately find the right college match for me at the highest possible level of competition. I hope to become a great addition to a great football program and make my parents and community proud.
