As a freshman, I was tall and skinny, so my coach used to call me the "Baby Giraffe." It was funny, but also not a very intimidating name for a football player. I quickly learned that my success at the quarterback position was going to depend on how hard I worked in the weight room. The following offseason, I began to earn the respect of my teammates by lifting and grinding day in and day out. At the end of that summer, I was awarded the 10th-grade "Offseason LIfter of the Year" award by my coach. Now he has changed my name to "Iron Giraffe," which became my Twitter handle.
Coach Hargitt runs a very demanding, year-round weight program which I believe sets us apart from many other schools. He prepares us for what football will be like at the next level. We run a very pro-style offense that gives me exposure to what I will be seeing in college. We lift year-round (even on game days!), watch a lot of film, and learn to be students of the game. My work ethic and commitment are what enabled me to win the starting varsity job as a sophomore. I intend to work even harder this year and plan on taking my team to the playoffs.
