“Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.” Ever since I heard this quote by Og Mandino, it has stuck with me. I can relate this because I have failed at a lot of things, but I never let that get in my way. I was taught to try, try again. My father has been in jail for my whole life. Moving house to house with my mother as a single parent of five kids has humbled me greatly. With all the things that my family is going through, this has motivated me to push through and continue my education. My goal is to end poverty in my family. As Og Mandino said, “I will not let the failure of my father or my family overtake me because my determination is strong enough to succeed.” All of these things that is going on shows me that I have to push through all this adversity and make a change. Although I want to play professional football, becoming a FBI agent is what I strive to be.
When people look at me, they see me as a average young, black man, but the color of my skin doesn't define me as a person. I’m that guy everyone knows and loves to be around. I love to meet new people and get my face out to the world. I am a very active person and have great leadership skills. In class i'm the one answering and asking questions. Out of class I am a every active person. I know almost everyone in the school because of the amount of after school activities I am in. I like to help others if they don’t understand. I push everyone do be the best they can be. I also push myself to be the best I can be. I am currently the sergeant major, third command of the MCJROTC program . As one of the top leaders in the program, I am over all the cadets. I have to make sure their grades stay up to par, keep them out of trouble, and make sure they have everything they need for school. It sounds like a big responsibility, but I have found a way to manage all these things along with the five different activities I am involved in afterschool.
I am the captain of the football, rugby, and track team. I play all these sports so I can learn the different culture of different teams. I also joined to get to know more people, I love to network. I am also the leader of the Johnson College Prep Drill team. I have to teach everyone the movements and get them ready for competitions, with the help of other students. I am the president of student government. I feel as a great leader, I have what it takes to help out the students of the school.
When I get into college I want to Major in criminal justice. Since I was a little boy, I always wanted to be a part of the FBI. I have seen almost all of the show “Criminal Mind”. The things they do is every interesting to me, and that's something I see in my future when I get older. I like the way they use they head to solve problems. I plan on going in the military to receive my top secret clearance after I get out of college.
College is important to me because my mother and father didn't go to college. I want to be the first tin my family to go to college, to show that everyone should go to succeed in life. I learned that college is a test your adulthood. High school showed me that college is a place where you have control of what's going one. You choose to go to class, go to parties, who your friends are going to be, ect. It's a lot of responsibility, but I am willing to put in the work to show everyone that I am ready. In college I plan to push myself to be the best I can be. I want to be able to get closer to my career goal. In my future I want to show everyone that that young black boy turned into a well.
